Common Threads---a Local Mission Project Common Threads is a ministry of compassion whose goal is to provide happy, colorful butterfly pillowcases to those dying of AIDS in hospitals and nursing homes. The gift will remind them each time they rest their heads that they are loved. The butterflies will remind them of resurrection in Christ. On each pillowcase will be written this verse: "I will lie down and sleep in peace. For you, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." (Psalm 4:8) The scripture will remind them that they are safe in the Lord’s care. Common Threads is funded by a generous grant for mission seeds from the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Confident in ministry, the Conference awarded $7,000 to Common Threads to purchase sewing machines, butterfly fabric and sewing notions to make pillowcases. One unique characteristic of Common Threads is that it will be an ecumenical ministry---participants will travel from church to church in our district for work sessions. If you would like to be part of this hope-giving ministry, please call Jeanne Scott at 799-9139. You don’t have to be a seamstress (or a woman!) to be able to participate. If you can measure and cut, you can help. If you can iron, you can help. If you can fold and wrap, you can help. If you can deliver, you can help. The first work session will be held at Pine Valley UMC, 3788 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington on Friday, June 19, 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome! |
